Program Description
Program Overview & Purpose:
Leadership Livingston runs annually from October through May and is designed to develop civic-minded community leaders in the Greater Livingston region. Upon completing the program,participants will have a deeper understanding of how community institutions contribute to the region?s overall quality of life. Participants will also receive content on a wide variety of topics to enhance their leadership skills. The sponsoring organization, the participating individual and the community will benefit greatly from participation in this program.
Participant Benefits:
Participants will engage in a day-long workshop each of the six months of the program. These workshops include content which will expand the leadership knowledge and skills of each participant. A key component of the program involves community tours which will expose participants to key institutions, industry sectors, and business leaders that are the fabric of Greater Livingston. Workshop themes are centered on leadership strengths, diversity & inclusion, natural resources, education,
workforce development, non-profits, county services and municipal government. Participants will emerge from the program with a greater sense of how economic development, community engagement, and quality of life all work together to create a vision for the region?s future.
Ideal Candidates:
Leadership Livingston seeks established and emerging leaders who have the capacity to make a positive impact in the community. Candidates should have demonstrated past community commitment, or a strong desire to become involved in their community. Leadership Livingston seeks a diverse representation of organizations and individuals from across the community including professionals from non-profits, financial services, education, manufacturing, healthcare, the arts, government, and other sectors.

Program Content:
Each month participants will come together to learn about leadership from each other, community leaders, and the program facilitator. Program content includes the opportunity for self-awareness through assessments such as StrengthsFinder and DiSC; learning about time-management and self-renewal; best practices with organizational culture and employee engagement; managing conflict and using a coach approach; active listening & assertive communication; mentoring others & delegation.
Program Facilitator:
Caryn Bedford, SPHR, CPC
Caryn has over 25 years of experience in leadership & career development. Her consulting business enables her to assist a wide variety of organizations with human resources, training, and coaching services. She has previously served in leadership roles for a state-wide insurance association, a multi-state vocational rehabilitation organization, a municipal retirement services organization and with career services at a public university. She obtained her master?s degree in university administration with an emphasis in career development from Michigan State University and a bachelor?s degree in psychology from Eastern Michigan University. She has also earned a certificate in leadership from the University of Michigan, is a Certified Professional Coach, and a certified DiSC and 5 Behaviors facilitator.
